Sun Goddess – Glastonbury Body Art Festival 2019

Happy New Year to you all!

Well, what a colourful start to 2019 – Ziggy Stardust-ed quite a few faces for The Fantasy Orchestra gig celebrating one of the biggest music icons ever: David Bowie.

January 12th saw the successful second year of Glastonbury Body Art Festival, organised by body artist Mel Broom and artist Stephen Duross.  Raising an amazing £1,247 for a local charity, Children’s World. A fabulous event with 27 body artists & models of all shapes & sizes, showing their creative flare to the most colourful level; living, breathing beautiful art! The chosen theme was Gods & Goddesses.

I must admit, I did find it tricky to think of a design. However, I took inspiration from my lovely model’s hair colour, a mid orange and chose warm, golden colours. I also wanted to challenge myself to paint a large portrait for the first time on a body. From a variety of cultures, the Sun Goddess – Warrior of Light was created: There is no light without darkness – She brings hope, courage & protection to guide you on your way. (I think we could all do with a Sun Goddess in our lives ;)).

Here’s a taster of the day:

(I do not own the copyright for music played on this video).

This was Leony Jessup’s first time modelling for an event like this. I was soooo chuffed and could not have been happier how she showed off my art work, fantastically radiated sun rays & lots of golden eco-glitter (from Ecostardust and Glitterlution). Click on her name to view her Instagram page.

The epic head piece was made by the very talented, Nicola Jayne Didcott Millinery. I didn’t give Nicola a great deal of time, but her design was just stunning, absolutely perfect for my design and just what I envisaged.  Check out more of her work in the link below:

Incidentally, we studied together during our art foundation. The Sun Goddess reunited us after 28 years! I can not wait to use or even may wear it myself for another occasion.

Gold paint used was #Mehron metallic powder with the mixing liquid  to create a  more intense colour, one of my favourites. Other brands: Mehron Paradise AQ, #DiamondFX & #MistairFX – great that they are all cruelty free products.

We even made it in the Telegraph & Central Somerset Gazette, wahoo!

For some models & painters it was their first time. It’s always encouraging to hear from models just how amazing they felt, how much it boosted their confidence and felt comfortable in their own skin. This is fantastic, very empowering. Another reason why I love body art is because it embraces all shapes & sizes – body beautiful! Why not give it a go someday….? ;-).

Huge thanks also to all the event team & fabulous images from all the photographers to make this all possible. 2020 will surely see another year of an array of dazzling body art for a great cause.
